3.3.3 Leakage. When the engine is being operated, there shall be no evidence of "leaks"
or "drips" in the oil, fuel, or coolant circuits (see 4.5.1 and 6.3). A "weep" or "seep" is
permissible, but shall be recorded.
3.3.4 Environmental conditions. The engine shall meet all performance requirements
before, during, and immediately after the environmental conditions specified herein (see 4.5.2).
3.3.5 Electromagnetic radiation. Electromagnetic emissions from the engine shall be in
accordance with the requirements of MIL-STD-461 (see 4.6).
3.4 Protective coating. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), all exposed exterior surfaces
of the engine shall be finished in accordance with the manufacturer's standard practice (see 4.6).
3.5 Identification and marking. The engine shall be identified in accordance with
ANSI AS478 (see 4.6).
3.5.1 Nameplate. Unless otherwise specified on the applicable drawing, the nameplate,
and data and instruction plates shall conform to A-A-50271 (see 4.6).
3.5.2 Accessories and equipment. All accessories and equipment shall be identified in
accordance with auxiliary manufacturer's standard practice and the I.D. markings shall include the
manufacturer's part number, serial number if available, and date of manufacture (see 4.6).
4. VERIFICATION
4.1 Classification of inspections. The inspection requirements specified herein are
classified as follows:
a. First article inspection (see 4.3).
b. Conformance inspections (see 4.4).
1. Examination (see 4.4.1.3).
2. Acceptance tests (see 4.4.2).
4.2 Test conditions. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), all tests shall be conducted at
21 +6°C (70 +10°F).
4.3 First article inspection. First article inspections are categorized as preproduction
inspection and initial production inspection.
4.3.1 Preproduction inspection. When specified (see 6.2), the preproduction sample shall
consist of two diesel engines. Preproduction inspection shall consist of examination as specified
in table II and testing as specified in table III.
