MIL-DTL-62462D(AT)
b. Coolant: Maximum continuous: 99°C (210°F) (measured at engine outlet).
Maximum intermittent: 110°C (230°F) not to exceed 15 minutes
(measured at the inlet to the transmission oil cooler).
3.3.1.8 Air inlet and exhaust restrictions. The engine shall perform as specified herein at
full rated power and speed with the following maximum flow restrictions (see 4.6):
a. Air inlet restriction: 6.2 kPa (25 in. of water).
b. Exhaust restriction: 10.1 kPa (3 in. Hg).
3.3.1.9 Oil. The engine shall perform as specified herein using oil conforming to
MIL-PRF-2104 for an ambient temperature range of -23 to +49°C (10 to 120°F) and oil
conforming to MIL-L-46167 for arctic operation -18 to -54°C (0 to -65°F) (see 6.4).
3.3.1.10 Fuel inlet restriction. The engine shall perform as specified herein at full rated
power and rated load with a maximum fuel inlet restriction (see 4.6):
a. 13.6 kPa (4 in. Hg) (clean filter element).
b. 27.1 kPa (8 in. Hg) (dirty filter element).
3.3.1.10.1 Fuel. The engine shall perform as specified herein using fuel in accordance
with A-A-52557. The engine shall be capable of operating over the entire temperature range
specified herein using JP-8 grade fuel in accordance with MIL-T-83133. Fuel conforming to
A-A-52557 or JP-8 shall be required for low temperature ambient conditions as specified
(see 4.6).
3.3.1.11 Slope operation. The engine must start and be capable of operating with the
performance characteristics specified in 3.3.1 at a 70 percent front to rear or rear to front slope
and at a 45 percent side slope (either direction). The engine shall be capable of operating on
those slopes when the oil level on the dipstick is at the "add" mark (determined on level ground).
There shall be no evidence of faulty lubrication, coolant or fuel leakage or other malfunction
(see 4.6).
3.3.1.12 Endurance. The engine shall meet the requirements of NATO AEP-5 (see 4.6).
3.3.2 Steam and waterjet cleaning. The engine shall be capable of withstanding steam
cleaning with a compound conforming to A-A-59133 and waterjet washing without deterioration
or leakage of seals, gaskets or electrical components. Paint removal shall not be considered a
deficiency (see 4.6).
